Move to Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire is long and thin in shape with the southern most part including Gerrards Cross, the Chalfonts, Beaconsfield and Amersham being popular for their closeness to London, good trains and the M4. A sweeping loop of the river Thames between Eaton and Henley follows the county border with Berkshire and these convenient riverside parts are highly prized and priced accordingly. There are some lovely villages in the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is great walking country with some outstanding viewpoints. Beyond the hills, the area around Aylesbury has some charming villages with the appeal of the cultural centre of Oxford being not far to your west. Further north still towards the market town of Buckingham, the surrounding villages present very good value for money.
In Buckinghamshire primary schools are good, many rated outstanding, secondary education is fully selective so all children sit the 11+ for grammar school entry unless they opt out. There are 13 grammar schools and some well thought of non-selectives too.
Train lines go into Marylebone so are particularly convenient for London workers on that side of town.
Top Buckinghamshire villages
The best in the county include: Bledlow, Chesham, Long Crendon, Winslow, Great Missenden, Hambleden, Lillingstone Lovell, Weston Turville, Bourne End, Haddenham, Chalfont St Giles, Latimer, Chenies, Chearsley, Cuddington, Fulmer. The areas around Amersham and Aylesbury and at Marlow and along the Thames are beautiful and highly desirable. Further out around Buckingham the villages present some great opportunities too, although the town of Buckingham itself has no convenient station or rail line.

Buckinghamshire Homes. Buckinghamshire has a good range of house types. Charming 17th century cottages and farmhouses are found in rural settings and in the villages of the Chilterns hills. Popular small towns and larger villages have some graceful Georgian and Victorian properties and there are many a modern mansion in the most select areas of the county. Some very special medium and large Grade 11 listed country estates come on the market from time to time, generally available around the 3-4 million mark. With it's perfect balance of countryside and convenience it is for good reason that Chequers, the weekend retreat of the Prime Minister, is in Buckinghamshire.
